Just back from vacation, so limited commentary this week. Between the Liaoning People’s Congress scandal and the sacking of Tianjin Mayor Huang Xingguo, it’s been a pretty exciting week in Chinese politics. No doubt more excitement to come in the long run up to the 19th Party Congress next year. The anti-corruption campaign is clearly still going strong, and I expect we will see a few more tigers nabbed in the next year…

Premier

Sept 18 Li attended a State Council ceremony where he took an oath to uphold the Constitution.

First time. Follows from new law passed last July. Also attended by all vice premiers, state councilors and ministers.

 

    Li left Beijing for New York.

Going to attend UN General Assembly, then will make official visits to Canada and Cuba.

 

  Sept 14 Li chaired an executive meeting of the State Council.

Meeting promoted “Internet Plus government service” and encouraging more use of prefabricated buildings in urban construction.

 

    Li attended and spoke at a meeting of the International Organization for Standardization general assembly.

 

    Li met with Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski.

 

  Sept 11 Li and Estonian Premier Taavi Roivas exchanged congratulatory messages on the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

 

  Sept 10 Li sent a congratulatory message to Kazakhstan’s newly appointed Prime Minister Bakytzhan Sagintayev.

 

  Sept 9 Li returned to Beijing.

The meeting expelled 54 NPC delegates from Liaoning Province due to election fraud.
